Dog Town is a non-profit organization which will serve as a unique community park/ nature preserve. Our goal is to promote the health and happiness of humans and their canine counterparts.

As much as we all love our dogs, most cannot deny that much of their day consists of waiting for us to come home from work, school, sporting events and other commitments. By the time the weekend rolls around we have social events and chores that have piled up during the week and are still hoping to get a little time for ourselves. When we do carve some undivided doggy time into our busy schedules, it seems there is a short list of places that will welcome our furry family member(s).

Dog Town will feature acres of fenced hiking trails, swimming ponds and obstacle courses. With the larger space and endless positive stimuli, we aim to reduce the risk of dog aggression and pack like behaviors often seen at traditional dog parks. Dog owners will enjoy a more relaxing and safe environment while their canine family members exercise, play and interact with other humans and animals.

Dog Town will also feature plenty of inside space for events or just to warm up with a cup of coffee on a cool day. On Cape Cod both humans and their dogs tend to suffer in the bad weather. I think many in this community, like myself, would do almost anything to avoid seeing those sad puppy eyes that just do not understand why their walk was cancelled on freezing cold days.

Dog Town’s unique environment will be available for the enjoyment of many individuals and non-profits. We plan to hold events for nursing home and assisted living residents where local dog therapy program volunteers can spend some time with the residents before rewarding their hardworking dogs with some outdoor fun. Similar events will be held for children and adults with various disabilities including veterans.

We also plan to hold adoption events with local shelters. Through donations of local wine, beer, food and local products; Dog Town will host events that are fun and exciting for the whole family and allow greater interactions with shelter dogs to promote adoption.

Through Dog Town’s events and willingness to offer this unique environment out to non-profits to hold their own events, these dogs have a much greater chance of finding their forever homes. We expect to entice a large social media following in order to receive the best community involvement possible in all dog town has to offer.

Cape Cod has a large ageing population who reside in assisted living or nursing facilities. Many of these residents have enjoyed canine companionship throughout their lives and may no longer be able to have a dog in their retirement or assisted-living communities; Dog Town would be able to provide these residents with the opportunity to interact with dogs in the Dog Town community during a wide range of social events.

While a portion of this population live in the aforementioned nursing or assisted living facilities, many people included in this aging population are very active and seeking opportunities to make a difference and interact with others in their community. Through dog training events and connections with therapy dog programs, we believe we would have more than enough volunteers who own therapy dogs, other well-behaved dogs or any dog-lover to fulfill an array of valuable positions at Dog Town.

Canine companionship and or dog therapy has been proven to offer immeasurable mental and physical health benefits. There are so many people in our community who could benefit from interactions with therapy and rescue dogs as well as any other canine companion visiting our non-profit. The potential benefit to humans of all ages in this community is undeniable and undoubtedly a community asset that there is a great need for at this time. However, the best part about Dog Town is the symbiotic relationship between humans and animals.

For every human benefit, we believe there is an equal if non greater advantage for the dogs. Dogs benefit in different ways from each unique bond they form just like their human counterparts. Most dogs aim to please therefor calming a child with autism or entertaining an elderly woman who has not left her room at her assisted living for a week, could offer so much to the dog as well as the humans they are helping.

Our plans for Dog Town will be ever evolving to meet the needs of our community. Dog Town’s community center will feature numerous local artists and crafters who specialize in products related to dogs. Although we will utilize social media for the greatest amount of community inclusion, the basis of Dog Town will always be positive real-life interactions between humans and animals. We anticipate our most immediate expansion will include the sales of art, local goods, wine, coffee, food and other products. We plan to offer musical and theatrical events as well as offer dog grooming, boarding as well as a variety of other services in future years in order to support local businesses as well as Dog Town’s mission. We will rely heavily on donations from local businesses in exchange for Dog Town’s endorsement of their goods or services.
